every interconnected thing: cells, stardust, branch song, red-tailed hawk, sea-tumbled shells, moss-covered stones— every question pondering the moment of wonder, when our human touch softens, kneels humbly at the feet of Mother Earth and listens.

the seal whose charcoal eyes check me out as I float with sugar kelp in my hair. He is looking for herring and hake in cloudy waters but he’s found me. A huge wave breaks across me and I can see the horseshoe bay of Trá Bán in the distance. Suddenly, the sea is a washing machine. I am tumbled into the waves. He barks and bellows across the roar of the surf. He’s very close now with his dark bull head. I float and turn quickly under his watch. I kick to shore through the foam. He is curious and circling me with his whole body moving like a wave. Does he know that old stories of babies found in shallow waters haunt my dreams? Scraps of white seal skin beside them, like a caul that protects from drowning. I am salty as I touch land. I tiptoe across the sand, compass jellyfish like aliens on the beach. I peel off my warm and tight neoprene skin, my blubber released to the fresh Donegal air. I wrap myself up in my thick dry robe fur. I wave to my seal, I stumble light-headed across jasper, shingle and sea glass. We are connected now by brine, breeze, and bravery

I pledge allegiance to the youth… They neeed me more than I need you … But you’re who I need to talk to … Giving my thanks to the aged … To the wrinkled and baby face … As a wise woman once said … “Everybody dies, we tell each other lies, sometimes we try to make it feel like we might be right, we might not be alone” And since we aren’t … What is it that we want … Scientific discovery .. Attached to religion to cover Falsified dreams.. Terrified … Yes, I’m petrified … Researching all my life to feel better about …ripening while we idly sit by .. Eyes glazed over .. Toupee is seems frozen … Why are we so afraid of the inevitable … When it’s time to grow … Science shows us the way to go .. Let it .. As problematic as they seem … To love the Beatles and remain upstream .. Is a promise that needs breaking .. We love discovery .. But humanity matters … Don’t twist it with your spiritual chatter ..If you consider it that … By the book … Psalms to crooks.. Pages passed down ..Though overlooked.. Rearranged .. Channeled … The Nile has more strength That the enamel rotting … As you drink .. They want us dead … I want real change .. Discredit theories .. You seem Impatient … Love has nothing to do with it … Tina Turner was here for amusement … Color wheel existing … Don’t worry … Get real Like the seasons and gravity … The more you know .. The more you comes to terms With the reality .. I’m sorry, But we’re biologically Minuscule… Look at the bigger picture… Please, don’t be a fool

I Pledge For Science By Vasti Carrion With the same hand, that communicates with a stem of a plant: Touching, touching to know the complexity of sexual reproduction -- cells to create diversity and leaving your hands with the smell of petals that my dog gnawed and learned what a rose was, for the very first time. The science of how a rose is dissected to attract and to create pillars for life and now I understand life!

the smallest snail climbing the blade like a highway. To the outer reaches of the universe, looking back at Earth and what we’ve done. To the garden snake and the mason bee and the chirping cardinal who all co-exist in my garden. To the light of the stars and the dark side of the moon. To the binary that makes my life easier and my mother’s harder. To the creeks and waterfalls that rise in the rain and fall in the sun. To the passenger pigeon, the sea cow that Steller paused for in 1741, the woolly and steppe mammoths, and the great auk, and others we didn’t save. To the blue whale, the tiger, the whooping crane, and the gorilla, in hopes it’s not too late. To the gray wolf, the southern white rhino, and the souring bald eagle. Welcome back. To Pluto.
